Quick Note – Post Sandy

Standard

Just wanted to let you know that while the area I live in was evacuated, we are safe and sound. The hotel lost power for 24 hours and while it was a little stressful/anxiety-producing, I made good use of the time and the sunshine, Monday, by sitting in my car and reading most of the day. I was very grateful for sunlight to read by!  My husband had to be away on business, but he made me a storm kit complete with batteries, extra flashlights, candles, canned food, lots of bottles of water, and the all important apple pie.

There is no power or phone service where our house is. I know that the sea wall was destroyed. The landlady will be going by the house today and she’ll call and let me know the extent of the damage.

I apologize for being so quiet on this blog. I hope to get back to posting regularly very soon! In the meantime, please tell me what you’re reading right now. I’m going to start making a big To Read Pile!

Stay safe!

A Reading Break

Standard

I just moved from CA to CT. What I’ve been doing instead of reading these past few weeks:

My office in CA, packed up. Sigh.

Movers loaded up all our stuff from our CA house.

Sacked out for a week in a hotel while waiting for our things to arrive.

Moved into our temporary home right on the water. First day in the house, I sat on the porch to soak up the view.

Enjoying many sunrises and sunsets while taking many walks along the shore.

Taking lots of pictures of the sights – including this belted kingfisher.

Amid, unpacking boxes and settling into this lovely furnished ocean-side house, trying to switch everything over to CT (driver’s license, insurance, etc), I was blessed to make new friends and to have our first visitor (dear friend, Cindy Lord).

Lunch at Mystic Pizza – food was fabulous, company even better!

Oh, and I learned to make a fire. I’m a born and bred city-girl so this was a huge accomplishment for me.

I’m trying to find time to read and write, but mostly I’m focused on getting settled while hubby starts his new job. I promise to get back to reading and blogging very soon!

On The Move

Standard

I’m waving to you all – farewell (for now) to my West coast friends, family, and home and hello to my East coast/New England friends, family, and home. Is this what it means to be bi-coastal? I apologize for the lack of posts lately but I’ve been busy packing and moving – my husband has a new job!  Because of the upheaval and change, I haven’t had a lot of reading time, but now that we’re in CT (still in a hotel awaiting our stuff to arrive before we move into the house) I should be able to get back to reading and writing!

Here’s what’s on my list (a mix of adult and YA/MG):

Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple (adult fiction) – a very good friend mentioned this book to me and we’re reading it at the same time.

UnWholly by Neal Shusterman – The second book in the Unwind trilogy!

The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan – Book 3 in the Heroes of Olympus series! Just in today!

Burn For Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian – I’m a fan of both authors! Interested in seeing what they can do together.

The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides (adult fiction) – I keep hearing good things about this one!
I expect my list to keep growing. What’s on your list to read?
