The Word Nest!

As some of you know, this past fall we moved from my beloved home state of California to Connecticut for my husband’s job. After being evacuated from Hurricane Sandy, making it through a blizzard and several snow storms, and otherwise enjoying our rental on the ocean, we are thrilled to finally move into our new home sweet home. New to us, at least. The house was built in the early 1800s!

My husband has always been very supportive of my writing career, and he knows how hard it is for me to move time and time again for his career. (This is the seventh move in sixteen years.)  To show his great love and appreciation, he had a special studio built just for me and my writing/reading! I’ve dubbed it The Word Nest (the area where we live is bird bountiful). As promised, here are a few before, during, and after photos! Many appreciative thanks to Mystic River Building Company and their amazing team and crew for creating and building this perfect space!

The studio is a former wood shop, attached to the detached garage. It was not weather proof nor secure so the first thing we did was put on a new roof, and add new windows and a door with a lock.

The original wood shop was not separate from the garage, so we added a wall, insulation, drywall, and paint and trim.

No surprise that I have a ton of books so I needed space for them. And I wanted to make sure I had additional space for my constantly growing library.

And finally, the most important part of my writing studio – where I write:

And let’s not forget, writing would be a very lonesome endeavor without the perfect companion:

Happy reading and writing! I know I’ll be happy working and reading in my cozy Word Nest!

Contact Info

It’s almost time – time for the grand opening of DEBtastic Reads! on September 6th! I hope you’ll all come help me celebrate!  Today, I added my contact info to the blog (see header and sidebar).  I think that’s all for now. If you’d like to see something else added to the pages or sidebar, do let me know! I’m open to suggestions!

See you here on Tuesday! Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Construction Progress

I’m still slowly getting ready for this blog to be ready by Sept. I’m now shooting for after Labor Day – Sept. 6 or maybe the 8th. I plan to post here on Tuesday and Thursdays – author interviews, book buzz, favorite books, and industry news. Anything else you’d like to see here?  I do plan to keep my LiveJournal blog: One Writer’s Journey  That will continue to contain more personal posts about my travels, food adventures, home stuff, and my personal writing process.

What’s New Here:  I added a page (see tabs above) called Coffee Break Tuesdays, where I share links to my Coffee Break Tuesday author interview series.

Thanks for stopping in! If you’d like to be informed about new posts, please feel free to subscribe (in the lower part of the right column)! I plan to make a feed for LJ when this site is ready.  Any input is welcome!

Construction Zone

I’m still in the process of learning WordPress, so please be patient. I hope to have this blog up and running by Sept 1.  In the meantime, I’ve added a couple of things to the sidebar – What I’m Reading and My 2011 Reading List.  I’m still playing with how things look on that sidebar.  Any suggestions of things to add (or remove)?  I realize that I might only have all of two readers right now (Hi, Jama! Hi, Susan!) – but hey, you guys count! 🙂

Coming Soon!

This blog will feature interviews with young adult and middle grade authors, book buzz about soon-to-be released or recently released books, and links to great author sites!  I’ll be importing interviews and other book related posts from my other blog.  I hope to have this site up and running by September 1st, so be sure to keep checking back!
