See You at Harry’s by Jo Knowles (Candlewick Press/May 2012)
Oh Wow! As you know, I’m already a fan of Jo Knowles! (See my reading rave of her most recent release Pearl (Henry Holt/2011).) And as some of you might know, I am not only good friend with the author, I’m in a writing group with her. I’ve been lucky to be able to read her drafts a few times over before they become full-blown novels. But, having read her drafts doesn’t deter me one bit from diving right into her story again and getting completely lost in her character’s world.
Twelve-year-old Fern often feels invisible in her family, everyone seems to be busy with their own issues – Dad with running the restaurant, Mom and her meditation, eldest sibling Sarah who is spending a gap year helping out (but not really) at the restaurant, and 14-year-old brother Holden who seems to be struggling with his identity. The only family member who seems to pay her any attention (excessive in Fern’s mind) is 3-year-old Charlie, constantly happy and the center of everyone’s world. When tragedy strikes, and guilty feelings abound, the family must come together, or be lost. Fern and her family feel so incredibly real, full of all the uncomfortable and feel-good moments families share. There is pain and there is love. A must read to be cherished for favorite characters you won’t want to let go of.
Most of you will have to wait till May to get your hands on a copy to read. However, I have my copy of the ARC (Advance Reading Copy) that I’m giving away to one lucky reader! You will be able to read this fabulous and touching story before most of the rest of the world! What do you have to do?

Hi Deb,
I love Jo. I love the cover of this book-so appealing. I’d love to win and read it before NESCBWI!
Thanks for the chance to win See You At Harry’s.
Mona
(I’ll send you my email addy if I win. I hope this doesn’t disqualify me but I hate to go “public”!)
No worries about the email addy since I know you and can probably get in touch with you if you should win and not check back here. I had someone win one of my drawings but had no way of contacting her, and she never contacted me – so that’s what prompted me to ask ppl to leave contact info. 🙂 Good luck!
I would love to read this book!
Thanks!
Loved PEARL and keep hearing good buzz on this one. I’ll wait ’til May if I have to … Thanks.

Wow thank you SO much for this awesome opportunity to win See You At Harry’s! I haven’t read it, but I have heard a lot about it lately, and cannot wait to read it! It sounds so relatable and great, plus the cover looks fantastic! I love Jo Knowles, she is an amazing author! I just read Jumping Off Swings, and it was such a touching, beautiful story. I also read Lessons From a Dead Girl, which was great as well. I loved both, and I’m sure I will love See You At Harry’s just as much. 🙂 Thanks again for such an awesome contest, and best of luck to all who enter! I can’t wait to find out the winners. 🙂

Thanks for the giveaway–I love Jo’s books!
I don’t need a copy of the book as I already have an ARC of it. I just finished it this morning and I adore it. Just like Jo’s other books, emotionally spot on and so heartfelt. ❤
Lessons From a Dead Girl is easily in my top 5 favorite YA titles of all time- I would love to read the new one!
Jumping Off Swings is in my top ten. Can’t wait to read the latest!!!!
I am just desperate to get my hands on this! I am a teen librarian in Newark, NJ whose kiddos love Knowles. I can’t wait to read this myself and then share the love by ordering many copies for our shelves AND telling all my Knowles’ fans how wonderful it is!
I have heard a lot of buzz already about this book and am VERY anxious to read and share it!
Can’t wait to read it!
I love Jo’s writing! Would love to read this book!
Super excited. Thanks for hosting the contest!
I would love to be placed into the drawing, but am hesitant to provide my address publicly. It is very nice of you to not only host but to spring for the shipping costs as well. Love Jo Knowles’ writing and looking forward to reading it.
No worries. I only wanted an email address for contact at this point. (which you provided) 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
i feel guilty for being selfish enough to compete with a librarian who would certainly do the world and the book more good than i will likely be able to do, if i wind up custodian of the book, but i have to throw my hat in the ring anyway. i’m reading ‘jumping off swings’–my introduction to jo’s work–and have been feeling the story so strongly that i must read it daily, but can only read three or four chapters at a time. which is the kind of thing that happens to me once every five years or so, if it happens that often. and that story will be over soon, and my mornings will just not be the same.
I am eager to read this — and would love to read it SOON! But maybe I can get an ARC at PLA in March …
Looking forward to reading it—please count me in! jasreilly@gmail.com
I cannot wait .. but I will! So exciting this will be around soon!
Oh please pick me! I love Jo Knowles. I’ve read Jumping Off Swings and Lessons From a Dead Girl. Pearl is next on my list. I’ve also seen Jo Knowles speak at the Eric Carle Museum…she’s so amazing! I look forward to seeing her at NESCBWI in Springfield, MA, in April. I’d love an ARC copy of See You at Harry’s!
Love all of Jo’s books. Can’t wait to read this one. Thanks for the opportunity. yascribe(at)comcast(dot)net
I’m very eager to read this!
I would LOVE to win this book for my middle school library! I’ve loved all of Jo’s books. I remember seeing a sneak peek of her first novel way back when we overlapped a bit at Simmons. 🙂
Sounds like a good story! Count me in!
I loved Jumping Off Swings AND Pearl from Jo. I love that she is such a sweet person too. Thanks for the contest, Deb.
Yay! Look at you with all these comments! How nice of you to give away your ARC.
Oh, this is a book I am dying to read! Would love to win an ARC!! Thanks so much for holding this contest, Deb!
Ooh! Count me in, sister. 🙂
I want in too! I absolutely love all of Jo’s books and have been impatiently wanting to read this one, even though I got weepy just reading a few reviews on goodreads…
Thanks for the chance to win.
Sarah
